28 Week Recap

Week 27 was spent finally getting over the sinus infection from hell, which allowed me to feel great during week 28. I remembered what it was like to finally be able to breathe normally, which meant I was also able to start walking again.

28 weeks marked the beginning of my third trimester and it's hard to believe my pregnancy is already 2/3 of the way done!

Here's the highlights:
Weight gained to date: 14 pounds
Baby's size: He is 2 and a quarter pounds and measures 14.8 inches from the top of his head to his heels.
Interesting baby fact: His eyesight is developing and he may be able to see the light that filters in.
Baby's heart rate: 142
Overall health: I continue to feel pretty good. I've started doing yoga stretches for the third trimester which are supposed to help me stay flexible during these last few months.
Best part of the last week: We got to tour the labor and delivery floors at the hospital where we will be delivering, which has been open for less than a year. The facilities are really incredible and it was nice to have a better understanding on how the process works and where we go to check in when labor begins. Just eight more weeks until we have to have our hospital bags packed!

Week 26 Recap

Week 26 will go down in history as the worst. week. ever. Fortunately this designation is not at all due to to the baby, but rather due to the most evil, heinous, destructive sinus infection in the history of the earth that decided to descend upon me on Tuesday evening.

I said it multiple times last week, but I honestly can't remember being this sick in a very long time. If ever. Add to the sickness the fact that I essentially couldn't take any medications while being pregnant, and you can tell I was in for a really fun time.

The only upside of the whole deal is that I might or might not have consumed my own body weight in ice cream this week (pregnancy body weight, that is...) as its cool temperature was one of the only things that made my throat stop hurting.

Here's the highlights:
Weight gained to date: ?? pounds (but I'm sure it's a lot more due to the ice cream!)
Baby's size: 14 inches and a pound and two-thirds t now :)
Interesting baby fact: He's inhaling and exhaling small amounts of amniotic fluid, which is essential for the development of his lungs.
Baby's heart rate: ??
Overall health: Pregnancy-wise, I think the poor baby was just hanging on as I battled the sinus infection.
Best part of the last week: The word "best" can't really be used in the context of my last week. Probably having my sweet husband come home from his trip to rescue me and buy me more Kleenex, ice cream and sustenance other than macaroni and cheese.

Babies

Last weekend, Taylor surprised me with a date to see the new documentary Babies. For those of you who haven't heard of it, the film follows four babies from birth through their first year in four different parts of the world: San Fransisco, Mongolia, Toyko, and Namibia. Walking into the theater was like walking in for OBGYN visit: nearly everyone there was pregnant. :)

The movie opens with two little boys in Namibia playing in the dirt with rocks as toys, and you quickly realize the stark contrast that the movie will paint between the civilized nations and the developing world. Despite the obvious juxtaposition of the "have" and the "have not" babies, each child seemed perfectly able to adjust to the life he or she was going to live, and each mother, family or village was able to provide the care that the babies needed.

While I know thousands of hours of video were edited to make the documentary, it was reassuring to know that if these women all over the world could figure out what motherhood was all about, than surely I will be able to as well.

Which is a good thing, considering this baby's coming in less than three months. :)

The Recap of Weeks 20-25

Wow, where does time go? Sorry for my delay in posting; Taylor enjoyed two and a half weeks of vacation, so my normally quiet evenings were busy working on house and baby projects. The good news is we're closer everyday to feeling at ease to bring our Peanut home when it's time. (The next question will be what to do with him once we have him home!)

While I've missed a lot of weeks, here's a picture of week 22:

And Week 24:

The 24 week doctor's appointment stats were:
Weight gained to date: 12 pounds
Baby's size: A foot long and just over a pound (he's long and skinny right now :)
Interesting baby fact: The doctor said I was preparing to enter a period of "rapid expansion," which I guess is true given he's supposed to gain 4 ounces this week alone.
Baby's heart rate: 158
Overall health: I've been feeling great, with my only complaint being discomfort near my ribs...when I asked the doctor about it he just said it was all of my organs scrunched together. Comforting thought!
Best part of the last few weeks: Having complete strangers recognize I'm pregnant...it's been fun to be past the "beer gut" stage and into the "baby bump" stage.
